Life-size Resin Bound Chessboard Installation in Shropshire

SKM Contracting are delighted to have designed and installed a life-size resin bound chessboard for a customer’s holiday rental property in Bridgnorth, Shropshire. This resin bound chessboard project showcases how a creative vision can be brought to life with skilled installation and quality materials.

Homeowners in Shropshire wanted to turn part of their garden into a unique entertaining area, combining functionality with aesthetic appeal. They envisioned a space where they could enjoy outdoor chess games with family and friends. We were excited to be asked to design and create this life-size chessboard!!

The project began with a consultation to understand the customer’s vision and requirements.  The resin bound design was finalised, ensuring it was exactly what the customer had envisioned. They chose two distinct colours for chessboard, 3mm Midnight for the black squares and 3mm Artico White for the white squares. These choices provided a striking contrast, enhancing the visual impact of the chessboard.

The preparation stage involved clearing and levelling the designated area. This was crucial for ensuring a smooth and even surface for the resin bound application. Care was taken to create a solid base, essential for the durability and longevity of the installation.

Using SureSet DIY Kits, we carefully mixed the resin with the chosen aggregates. The intricate nature of the project required precision and attention to detail. The team meticulously poured and spread the resin mixture into a pre-marked grid to form the individual squares of the chessboard. This step-by-step approach ensured that the pattern was precise and the surface was even.

Once the resin bound chessboard was laid out, it was left to cure. This curing process is always critical to achieve the desired hardness and finish. After curing, the chessboard was inspected to ensure it met quality standards and the homeowners’ expectations.

The finished resin bound chessboard exceeded our customer’s expectations. The Midnight and Artico White colours created a visually stunning and functional game area that seamlessly integrated with their garden. The durability of the resin bound surface ensures that the chessboard will withstand the elements and provide enjoyment for years to come.
